With the US Presidential Primaries well underway, Marvel Comics is asking you to reconsider your choice with Vote Loki.
With major news networks embroiled in coverage of Super Tuesday, Marvel has chosen to strike while the iron is hot and lend Loki’s particular brand of guile to the contest.
The series, which will presumably be a limited run, was announced with almost no details. No creative team has been attached, but Marvel did make it possible for readers to vote as to whether or not they would support the trickster god for the highest office in the land in an online caucus.
The move is certainly a response to one of the more contentious primaries in recent memory, and will be sure to draw a great deal of commentary from both comic book fans and the political commentariat when it launches in June. How the creative team chooses to deal with the current political climate should certainly be interesting. Marvel has come under fire from the conservative wing of American politics in recent years for such things as featuring immigrant Muslim Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, passing the torch to an African-American with Sam Wilson in Captain America, and featuring same-sex marriage in X-Men. The right-wing blogosphere already seems to have it out for the comic book industry, and if Marvel chooses to use this opportunity to take what are perceived as shots at any particular candidate, that furor is likely to reach a fever pitch.
Are you onboard for Vote Loki this June? Let us know in the comments!
